FAQ

How do I cite or give credit to photos, recordings, and other items on this website or located at UNC?

Please use the following citation format to cite or give credit for an item when using image or recordings:

[Identification of item], in the [Collection name and number], Southern Historical Collection, The Wilson Library, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Also consider including the name of the original owner or donor if the information is available.

I donated photos and other items to EKAAMP and UNC. Can I get a copy?

You can request digital copies when you donate your items to UNC. Some copies may be difficult to provide due to the format of the materials, for example, if you are donating older sound, film, or video formats. If you lost your copy, please visit the Contact page to request a replacement from UNC.

I would like to use photos, recordings, and other items on this website or located at UNC for something that I plan to sell or make profit from. How do I get permission?

Items on this website or located at UNC cannot be used for commercial purposes without permission from rights holders. In other words, it’s illegal to sell these items or use them to create something you will sell or make money from without permission. Please visit the Contact page to ask UNC how to obtain permission for commercial use of specific items.

Non-commercial use of these items, for example for educational or personal use, is allowed.
